“Not Everyone’s a Customer, But Everyone Can Hear Your Message”

When I first released my children’s cybersecurity book, Emani and the CyberHero Response Team, I had a quiet internal battle: Should I include my daughter’s teacher in the launch email? I didn’t want to be “that mom.” I worried I might be bothering her. I told myself maybe she wouldn’t be interested. Maybe she was too busy. But something in me whispered: share it anyway. So I did. And I can tell you now, it was one of the best decisions I’ve made so far.

Because of that one email, my daughter’s teacher not only read the book, she celebrated it. She spread the word to other teachers. Word traveled. Copies were purchased. And then something magical happened. My third-grade daughter and I were invited to do a read-aloud for a second-grade class, and then another joined. And there we were, side by side, sharing our story in front of a room full of wide-eyed little learners. She was nervous at first. But page by page, her confidence grew.

And in that moment, she wasn’t just my 9-year-old daughter, she was an author. A teacher. A CyberHero. What stopped me in my tracks was watching her proudly explain what an insider threat was.

That moment reminded me why I do this.
Why I write.
Why I build.
Why I share.

Because yes, not everyone will be a customer. But anyone can be a listener.
And sometimes, all it takes is one person hearing you to create a ripple that touches so many more.

If you’re sitting on a message, a mission, or a moment you feel called to share, don’t hold it back. Your story might be the spark someone else is waiting for.
